O-kaaaay... so this program is essentially giving you the same error as cdrecord. Of course, that could be because there's something wrong with this "modified" version of cdrecord, and it's being passed through to gearGUI (which is just a front-end to cdrecord, when all is said and done).

Maybe we should be looking at your /etc/fstab and your /boot/grub/grub.conf. Which Fedora is this, and what kernel are you using?

However, before going to all the trouble of posting that, maybe you should look at the xcdroast atapi mode failure (fc2) thread on the fedora-list at redhat.com.

Hope this helps.

Hmm.. now I wonder have you tried using the dev=/dev/<whatever-you-cdrw-is> ?? .. in my case, for kernel >= 2.6, it is /dev/hdd .. you surely know that ide-scsi is no longer needed for >= 2.6 kernel don't you?

Talking I got it working

I just got it to work using the suggestion above of dev=/dev/hd?

I used the following:

dvdrecord dev=/dev/hdc -dao -eject -v KaitlynnRyan.iso

And the home made DVD of my cousins works like a charm!

Burning iso

i think this is what you are looking for.

$mount -o loop -t iso9660 FC2-i386-disc1.iso /mnt/iso

this will mount the iso file then you can copy it to CD using any cd writing software.

Talking

I had a related problem with Fedora Core 2. My CDROM worked fine for reading,
but I could not record with "cdrecord dev=/dev/hdc". It would complain that
it could not find the device or some such thing, even though /dev/hdc existed.

It turned out the problem was that I had added a "hdc=ide-scsi" parameter to my
/etc/grub.conf in a previous attempt to get it working. The drive was still
fully functional, but the directory /sys/block/hdc no longer appeared.
