Question Burning a disc image

OK,
I have a shiny new Fedora Core 5 installation and have been more than happy to have shifted from M$ Windoze.

But there are a few things that I once had that I miss. I prbably have them but aren't familiar with the name of the sought item(s)

I had Nero to burn CD/DVD files, I could load a pile of MP3 files into a 'Create Audio Disc' project and they would be converted into a format that played in most CD players

But the current and pressing matter is --

How does one burn a disc image (.ISO) ?

hi,
since you are using Nero so opt for the second last option "image" and write it using that.
but before doing that make sure to check the md5 hash of each file you download against the one listed on the site.
If the md5 do not match, you shoud download the file again, possibly from a different mirror.
To get the md5 hash of a file after you have downloaded it, use th following command on linux:

#md5sum filename.iso

for windows you will have to download the iso checking software.

regards

Saywot, are you using Gnome or KDE for your desktop environment?

There are a number of tools available for burning CD's. If you are using GNOME, you should be able to open up the nautilus file manager and right click on the ISO image. On the menu that comes up, there should be a button to burn to a disk.

There is another really nice program available called Kb3. This program is built using KDE libraries, so you'll need those on your system to run it.

It's actually k3b, and yes, it's a very nice CD/DVD burning program.

Err,

OK I had a file called 'something'.ISO and with my Windows machine using the Nero programme when I burn that disc image to disc I'd end up with 'something'

I have just finished using the K3B programme and now have a disc with 'something'.ISO copied onto it

Which isn't the desired result (I now have a copy of a file and another copy of a file)
