Boot: Sometimes fast, usually REAL slow???
Hi,
I've been running Fedora Core 1 for almost a year now and this little issue is starting to bug me enough to try to fix it! 8^) (Put out the biggest fires first...)
About one in 5 times I boot my machine, it takes maybe a minute total. Real fast.
But the other 80% of the time it takes 5 minutes or more and the delay is always before it puts anything in the "Show details" bootup info display. When it finally get un-stuck, the first thing it displays is: "init entering run level 5" (or something to that effect) and then it screams through the rest in 10 seconds or so and is up. When it is "stuck", there is no indication of any activity. No disk activity at all. It's like it is waiting for some timeout to occur.
If I knew how to determine the sequence of events at bootup I maybe could get a clue but since I'm pretty new to Linux, I don't understand the boot process very well or where to look to see what's happening.
Since it boots so fast every now and then, it seems there must be some little hangup that, if removed, would allow it to boot quickly every time.
Thanks in advance for any help on this.
