Boot of Fedora 2 T2 fails after upgrade
I have installed FC1 under VMWare, the installation worked fine. I then upgraded to FC2 Test 2. The result will not boot. The kernel complains that it can not find root=LABEL=/
In resue mode I have checked the volume label and it seems fine. Any ideas ? |
Modify the grub.conf entry, removing the root=LABEL=/ and change to the example below
Example kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.5 ro root=/dev/hda10 acpi=on selinux=0 rhgb |
Hmmm. Didn't help much, I know have
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.3-2.1.253.2.1 ro root=/dev/sda2 acpi=on selinux=0 rhgb The error I now get is 'Unable to open device 'sda2'. |
Is sda2 your / folder. If you can, check /etc/fstab to make sure you have the right partition for /
|
Yes, it is. As mentioned in the first post, this was an upgrade from a working FC1 installation. I note that FC2T3 is now out. I might give that a try.
The reason for getting an FC2 release up is tio check out the compatibility of some software we use before FC2 becomes production. It is part of a planning exercise. |
start with the resuce disk and recompile ur kernel...
|
I had a quick go at recompiling the kernel fron a rescue boot but didn't get far. I thought I'd try a fresh FC2T2 install to see if that was any different from doing an FC1 -> FC2T2 upgrade. It wasn't :-(
I might have to wait until an FC2 final dist is available and try again. |
