Blurry default fonts on Fedora Core 6

Is there any way to get around the default blurry fonts of Fedora Core 6?

I've tried going in to System > Preferences > Fonts and turning anti-aliasing off, but this makes fonts look too jagged, a real strain on the eyes especially at lower font sizes. The other anti-aliasing methods make the fonts appear quite blurry.

Is there another font rendering engine that I can download?

I have the latest graphics driver for my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 7950GX2) and I am using a CRT monitor at 1600x1200. I've installed Fedora Core 6 many times and the default fonts always look blurry, regardless of graphics driver or screen type.

Did you try changing fonts? Try Luxi Sans, Aquabase, etc. Aquabase works and looks good in my case.

Get some here

Just copy the saved files to /usr/share/fonts as root.

fonts, x11
