Black screen after installing nvidia 6106 drivers
Hello,
I know this has been asked before, but I did a lot of research with google without being able to fix my problem. When installing nvidia's 6106 drivers - with standard fc2 2.6.5 kernel - which are supposed to work with 4k stack size I get a black screen, but the computer keeps alive for I can reach it through a lan connection. I don't think it's a hardware problem because the nvidia drivers work nicely with slack 9.1 and slack 10. my system: [code] cpu: amd duron 1.6ghz mobo: asrock k7s41gx video: nvidia gforce t64 (64megs) thanks in advance. |
hi,
just a thought, maybe completely off-beam.. i had this when i installed an ati driver on my father's machine, and it turned out that i'd selected an incorrect refresh rate for the monitor, which was then shutting off to protect itself.. |
Hi,
thanks for your quick reply. I limited the refresh rates to values recommended by the screen's manual (it's a head lw785 lcd screen), but unfortunately that didn't change my plight. Still a black screen. almost forgot them: Xorg.0.log xorg.conf |
Oddly, I have the same symptoms with every distro other than fc2... give this a shot, though:
rpm -e --nodeps xorg-x11-Mesa-libGL |

If not , then read the nVidia README file about what needs to be changed in the xorg.conf file. Also try pressing [ Alt Control - ] or [Alt Control + ] to change the screen resolution. I have the 6106 driver installed on my FC 2 machine with 2.6.5 kernel and a Leadtek GF 4 440MX video card and it works great. ( especially when playing TuxRacer ) |

he already posted it. It's been configured for the NVIDIA driver. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Doktor Prokt said he changed the refresh rate , not the screen resolution. Also , it is always better to start off with the basics and ask if they have configured /setup the config files first , often quite a lot of the problems stem from the fact that somebody "forgot" to do something in a config file. |
I think you missed my point. Check his second post. He already posted a link to his xorg.conf file, and it looks fine.
