basic fc5 sound stack question ?

This is a basic fc5 sound stack question. The system is a laptop with a sound fusion audio chip.

I would like to play rm/ram and mp3 files. ALSA is configured. There appear to be several audio/visual players available, xine, xmms, realplay, helix, and mplayer - to name a few.

What is the best cleanest stack to use for fc5 and ALSA. So far mplayer plays, however it locks up after a suspend resume.

Thanks in advance - Dan

This is a follow up:

The sound stack is 'working' after a system boot however it hangs after use. This can be after a short while or after an hour or so. A reboot will resolve the issue.

Is there a diagnostic too to determine what level of the stack it locked? The stack appears available, time on the playback moves, however there is no sound.

Thanks - Dan
