ATI Radeon 9600 drivers question
Hello Everyone,
I was curious if anyone had tried to install the ati drivers as shown in this howto: http://www.fedorafaq.org/#radeon Did it work? Does this look like a credible walkthrough? The reason I am asking is because I am fairly new at linux, and I dont want to destroy my display configuration and not know how to get it back. Thanks |
I am trying this now to work on my FC2 install using a P4 3.2GHz w/ HT and my ATI 9800XT 256.
I'll let you know how that works in about 10 min. |
Thanks cariwill, did it work?
|
It didn't completely work for me.
I managed to get the drivers to install - but no 3D hardware acceleration. I've put so many hours into trying to get it to work that I'm considering using a different distro until better drivers come out. |
To anyone who tried this, here is something else I found about this topic,
http://www.stanford.edu/~fenn/linux/radeon.shtml |
Has anyone been able to actually get the 3D rendering to work for an ATI card?
|
Hello Everyone,
To followup, I used the original FAQ that I had posted and the fglrx did not work as the second faq from Stanford stated. Then I replaced my xorg.conf file with the back up and implemented the changes recommended in the second faq. Now I have 3D rendering. Problem solved, I hope you have luck with this too. Cheers |

Hihi a smartass :)

Successfully installed FC2 on a Centrino-equipped Dell Latitude D600 with an ATI Radeon 9000M. Here's the hell:
1.) The ATI patch everyone is using in those Radeon FAQs seem to only work against the stock 2.6.5-1.358 kernel. I installed every kernel RPM update available, but no luck..just hell. 2.) Build-your-own-kernel is still the best way. I built a kernel from the 2.6.9 vanilla sources and had no need to patch the Radeon driver. Just "#rpm -ivh" the fglrx driver and you're done. Getting in excess of 800FPS with glxgears! |
Are you getting 800 FPS or 80 FPS, 800 seems really high. Assuming GLX Gears is the Screensaver, what do you get for ant spotlight. I patched and used the how tos and am getting about 50 FPS right now.
Second, how do I build my own kernel? |

Code:
4442 frames in 5.0 seconds = 888.400 FPS As for how to build your own kernel, perhaps someone here can provide you with a good FC2 kernel howto. |
