ati fglrxinfo reports still using mesa3d
after installing the rpm released by ATI for X.org, it still reports I'm using mesa3d.
Code:
[fragile@fragility ~]$ fglrxinfo
display: :0.0 screen: 0
OpenGL vendor string: Mesa project: www.mesa3d.org
OpenGL renderer string: Mesa GLX Indirect
OpenGL version string: 1.2 (1.5 Mesa 6.1)
my xorg.conf file reads as I think it should. I'll paste any parts of importance here.
Code:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Videocard0"
Driver "fglrx"
VendorName "ATI"
BoardName "ATI Radeon Mobility 9600 M10"
Option "no_accel" "no"
Option "no_dri" "no"
Option "Capabilities" "0x00000000"
Option "VideoOverlay" "on"
EndSection
looks OK to me. loading fglrx as it should, right?! I'll paste the module section just for giggles I guess.
Code:
Section "Module"
Load "dbe"
Load "extmod"
Load "fbdevhw"
Load "glx"
Load "record"
Load "freetype"
Load "type1"
Load "synaptics"
Load "dri"
EndSection
I tried putting in there but that didn't help either.
Here's a dmesg with some stuff on it, nothing too interesting though.
Code:
[fragile@fragility ~]$ dmesg | grep fglrx
fglrx: module license 'Proprietary. (C) 2002 - ATI Technologies, Starnberg, GERMANY' taints kernel.
fglrx: Unknown symbol pci_find_class

Still no luck. I don't want to re-post it in Hardware, but it's not really a Fedora specific problem, I'm sure.
on the real note, I've still no luck. At boot it checks for ati-fglrx module in kernel and says ok. can someone point me in the general direction? I've dug all through my xorg stuff and it all looks good to me.

was finally able to get the driver etc loaded after reading another ATI post in this very forum, more recent than mine though.
Now I have a new problem.
Since I have the driver etc installed and working correctly (fglrxinfo reports all good, fgl_glxgears looks good too), when switch to tty* or if I logout, my screen turns all strange colors and just flacks out.
This is using a laptop, and I have tried taking my old xorg.conf file and replacing the radeon driver with the fglrx, but I still get the same thing when I logout/switch to tty*
does anyone know a solution to this?
Thanks!
EDIT: Tried vmalloc=256 at boot with no luck. thought maybe it'd do something since I've seen others saying it helped them.

Of course.
Right here. you'll really have to play with it to get it to work, though.
also, when it asks about AGP, say no. that's the only way it would work for me.
and as far as trying another rpm, I don't really see why. I have the driver working, there were just consequences to it that I have to fix now.

er, cancel that. with "no_dri" "yes" it wasn't using fglrx, it was using the mesa driver still, somehow. any ideas?
went and installed the livna rpms (fglrx and kernel module), but I'm still getting the same thing. Here's the videocard portion of my xorg.conf
