ATI + Fedorafaq procedure buggy ?

Just made an out of the box Fedora Core3 fresh install, updated my yum.conf file and installed the ATI drivers as instructed with the command mentioned at Fedorafaq.org:
yum install ati-fglrx kernel-module-fglrx-`(uname -r)`

The drivers installation is successful, but after rebooting I don't have 3D hardware acceleration ( during the boot process I have some message that loading the fglrx kernel modules failed )
I'm sure some other ATI users had the same problem, but couldn't find any solution with Google.
Is it a RPM install problem or a xorg.conf problem ?
tia for any suggestion.
