apt-get signature verification

How do I set up the Conectiva/Redhat version of apt-get (from freshrpms) to verify packages with gnupg? I can't find anything about it in the manpages or even in Debian's documentation.

Thanks,

GR

For anyone else who's having this problem:

It seems apt is supposed to do gpg-checking by default. There's supposed to be an /etc/apt/gpg directory and a switch in /etc/apt/apt.conf that turns this on by default. /etc/apt/gpg is missing in my installation even though it exists in my apt rpm, so I need to figure out why.
