application firing at startup

Hi
I placed the lines below in my .bash_profile

#fire xterm
xterm &

#fire my C++ proj
path/to/proj

but this is firing only xterm, how can I get it to fire the proj as well, the point is that proj opens a input stream and waits to accept input from the standard input prompt(xterm prompt in this case)

thanks

if I move the line
path/to/proj
to .bashrc which is read by xterm every time it is fired, it works but then when I open another xterm to do othere things, it fires my proj which is not what I want, I want only one instant of the proj running.
