Anybody have ATI 9600 dual video working?

I have an ATI Radeon 9600 with two monitors attached. Right now, the right monitor clones the left (1280x1024) but I would like to extend my desktop (2048x1024). I found but the xorg.conf it made (actually XF86Config-4) had way too many errors and therefore gdm couldn't start. The faq was really for enabling 3d acceleration but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.

BTW, when I change the display settings to ATI Radeon 9600, they always revert back to VESA.

Anybody have any luck?
