Anyone have it installed yet?

Does the webcam driver work (finally)?

I downloaded the DVD (with bittorrent). It installs OK, but when I reboot I get a message related to a "firstbootwizard" problem, and it stops there (after login)

The ppc boot.iso doesn't let me run a CD install or an NFS install with the images I downloaded.
When I load isolinux from the hard drive I can get the install going off CD1 but I always get a "cannot read package openjade-1.3.2-16" right when I pop in Disc2, and the sha1sum checks out so the image should not be corrupt.
No idea where to go from here. . .
I want to see it install on my ibook sooo bad. FC3 runs great on there and I want to be able to help test the next release. . .

How did the install of FC3 work on your I-book? I've got a beige G3 here at work with a second HD &
have run Yellow Dog on it. I wonder if I could run FC3/4 instead? What sort of boot loader does the
PPC FC3 use?

It uses yaboot (very similar to grub I think) Its not a bad install. . . I would suggest checking out the PPC forums over at www.fedoraforum.org, also here is a basic walkthrough. . . http://www.bytebot.net/geekdocs/ibook/fedorappc.html

read it a couple times over then check out http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=18175 and read the posted walkthrough. . . usually you can boot fedora right off the bat after the install. . .sometimes you need to do a tiny bit of work. That ibook has an older airport right? The extreme is not supported.

I personally think FC3 runs better on an ibook with 256mbs of ram than OSX.

I am warning you however that at this time FC3 is sort of a "do at your own risk" sort of deal.

FC4 seems to be installing fine now on my laptop, I'll let you know if everything goes smoothly and you can try that out. I just had to burn cd2 four times before I got a good one.

Darn! I'm hanging also right after logging in. It hangs both from my user and root accounts and I'm not getting any error message at all. Have you found a work-around yet?

I'm running on Gnoppix at the moment. I'm so glad I burned a new copy of it last night since I gave away my two copies of the Berry live cd. I've gotta hand it to Gnoppix, it's pretty darn fast.

thanks for the info Salpula. Once I get my AMD box back up and working again, I may try my beige G3. That's not a notebook, just an older mac box.

fc4 is installed properly, I am dual booting with FC3, for some reason however it hangs on cups in the boot cycle. It did this in FC3 on some kernels but I got it to boot and disaabled the service. Anyone know a way to disable the service without being in FC4 but with the partition mounted in FC3?

Try it in the chroot environment. For example, if the FC4 system is on /dev/hda2 ....

mkdir /mnt/test
mount /dev/hda2 /mnt/test
chroot /mnt/test
chkconfig --level 2345 cups off
exit

You could also let it boot to FC4 and enter interactive mode (press "I" right before udev), then just prevent cups from loading, and dissable it after boot is complete.

I used homey's method. It worked great. . I knew of the chroot command but never used it. Works wonders!

It seems to be having gnome problems. . . I only get a black screen with a moveable cursor, and while that is extremely entertaining I can't get anything done with it, I am going to have to drop the runlevel.

Go back to Fedora Core 3. Mine hangs as well.

I was getting a dark blue screen and cursor too on my AMD box. I did a quick re-install of FC3 & let Yum return things
to more or less normal. Oh well. So much for test 1. FC3T1 was very usable, so I'm pretty surprised that FC4T1
has such a major bug as to not boot.

I've got dual boot going so it aint no thang.

Im gonna mess with it if I have time this weekend, I am trying to update some things from the development tree

Are you using an AMD, too?

I'm wondering if this is an AMD problem only.
