Unhappy Any later than kernel 2.6.23 stalls on boot, also quite unstable...

I am running Fedora 8 on a Toshiba Equium Laptop.

I am stuck however with kernel 2.6.23 as its the only one that will work properly. If I use a later kernel my laptop stalls on boot for about 5 minutes then picks up again.

When it finally boots strange lines appear on the screen sometimes and other strange things happen.

Any help would be much appreciated! I've searched the web like mad and can't find anything related that would help.

Is there any way of storing the boot messages, as this may help to diagnose the problem. I tried /var/log/boot.log* but they all seem to be empty.

Thanks for your help,
