AntiVirus

Hi
Planning to install Fedora. Total linux newbie.
Is there a possiblity for a virus to enter linux ? I mean there is no way Blaster and Sasser can enter because it depends on the LSASS.EXE and SVCHOST.EXE files which are specific to Windows.
What is the best anti-virus (free) available for Fedora ?
Im using AVG in Windows but theres no linux version.
Thanks

You don't need it unless you are running a mailserver and want to keep the virii out of the servers that way. For your desktop, just use good security measures, have a good firewall, stop all unnecessary services, don't log in as root. etc... check on the security forum as well.

There are not many anti-virus programs for Linux because they are not necessary and most that do exist are for cleaning files that were infected via samba shares from Windows machines. If you want to be sure your machine is secure from attack (hackers or viruses) be sure to only enable services you need (/usr/bin/setup), learn how to properly use /sbin/iptables, and /usr/bin/up2date.

I've been an AIX, Linux, and Solaris admin for a number of years and an anti-virus application for these systems is almost unherd of.
