ALSA package conflict in FC6

I recently installed the FC6 on a new machine and have been attempting to update the ALSA drivers. I downloaded and built the 1.0.14rc1 package from the ALSA project and didn't encounter any problems builing the driver, lib or utils. The driver installed fine without any issues. However, I am unable to install the newer version of the libraries. When I attempt to add the package, I get a long list of conflicts similar to the one listed below:

file /etc/alsa/alsa.conf from install of alsa-lib-1.0.14-0.1.rc1 conflicts with file from package alsa-lib-1.0.12-2.fc6

My machine hardware is:
Intel Core Duo Processor E6400
4GB of dual channel DDR2 SDRAM
256 nVidia Geforce 7300LE TurboCache
1TB performance RAID 0 (2 x 500GB SATA 3Gb/s 7200 RPM HDDs)
16x CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW)
Integrated Intel 82801H HD audio controller (7.1 channel audio)

The audio appears to be working however when I shutdown the system I get an error with the alsactl (invalid argument). From what I have read the latest version of the driver should resolve this issue. Any thoughts on how to resolve the conflicts?

Any reason why you didn't like the alsa package that came with the distro?
The conflicts you're having are due the version/package names you used (did you build RPMS before installing it?).

After doing some research into why the driver reports a failure during the shutdown process it was recommended to update the driver to a more recent version. The distribution came with version 1.0.12.

Yes, I did rebuild the RPMS. The RPMS for the libraries built without any errors. The RPMS for the utils would not build as it indicated they were dependent on the libraries which I was unsuccessful in updating.
