ALL fedora11 cd/dvd freezing at install
My Fedora 11 install review:
The system (cd2, 7600gs, 2gb ram) boots ok from any live cd/dvd. Then it show a nice window with a (3 colored flashing forward motion) tollbar at the bottom. So far so good: no questions to answer, the Dvd is speaning out loud. 2 min later the screen go into verbose mode. After a dozen of written lines, the drive noise gradually extinguishes, its light turn off, the b&w verbose screen dies and Pc looks like dead too. Could be there like this until next day, nothing happen. So, alt/ctrl/del!! Cd/dvd (liteon) eject and pc reboots. This is really CRAZZY. Lately I'v been trying many different distribution and this never happened. It's equal with any of the many cd/dvd's, window manager's, 32/64 bit. I did try last week, 2weeks before, today.... and did also try fedora Omega but is the same end. I wonder if this is just me, missing some Fedora fundamental or if it did happen to some of you. I browsed and searched but this is like an uncommon issue. |
you do know that fedora is a TESTING distro and not everything may work .
there is a bug in anaconda for reformatting the drive to ext4 .On some systems it just locks up . The sound is broken on the install dvd ( for some people but not all ) also if you have a built in ATI chip on the mobo ( or it is a laptop) a work around is needed for some chips a workaround is also needed for some intel "3d" chips on laptops should i go on .... |

Thank's John VV. Yes, that's true. I've been also through the Fedora forums and I'm no doubt that F 11 will work for some, others may find a work around, I'm sure a few will give-up. I've posted here and at fedora forums and could not find a hint. What would you recommend: filling and submit a bug form? I'v been across dozens of F 11 install issues. This one is unique, don't know why. let's put here my sys specs mb: gigabyte chipset: intel 965 P cpu: intel E 6300 ram: 2 x 1Mb ddr2 800 (kit) gpu: nvidia 7600 gs hd1: sata 300 gb hd2 ata 40 gb optical drive: liteon modem: vodafone usb mobile HSDPA - (huawei: works ok with last version of networkmanager) |
So you've got a newer nVidia GPU which may not be supported by the FOSS nouveau driver that's used by the X server when a nVidia GPU is detected. Try booting with the xdriver=vesa option.
