After update to KDE 3.5 taskbar is missing

I have just updated my FC4 box to KDE 3.5, using the released updates, but the Taskbar has completely disappeared.

A quick search reveals that other distributions are also experiencing the same problem - e.g. Mandriva

I tried with kicker on the command-line, but it does have any effects with me.

Any suggestions?

I have been seeing this as well. No big issues on Centos except lost of the System Settings menu. Couple of edits and tweaks and a restore fixed it for me.

Here is two things to try.
1. Create a new user and login as the new user. Does the taskbar appear?
If so then the only quick and easy fix is to remove your .kde and maybe .local in your home user directory. You will lose any kde prefences you changed. It will be like a clean slate. Instead of removing just rename them to say like .kdebackup and .localbackup. If you need something in them then you have a backup.
2. 2nd option is really the same as the first just not creating a new account. Just rename the .kde .local and login.

Note to rename it is best to logout to the login manager. Press Alt-Ctrl-F1. Login as a regular user. use the command ' mv .kde .kdebackup ' and mv .local .localbackup '. Type exit to logout. Hit Ctrl-Alt-F7 to get back to the gui login manager. Login as the regular user to KDE.

Hope this helps.

Yes it helped, thanks - but renaming .kde was enough.
