Adding Windowmaker
I'm sorry to ask a question that's been asked so many times before, but I've tried all the solutions I've found, and none have worked. Here's what I've got. I've installed WindowMaker on a FC5 install. WindowMaker runs fine, but I can't get it to load into the 'Sessions' menu at log in.
I have created an xinitrc file in ~ with 'exec wmaker' in it (there was no xinitrc file)
I found that the rpm install already created a windowmaker.desktop file in /etc/X11/dm/Sessions
I found that the rpm install already created a "Window Maker" file in /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions
I have run when I load another window manager, ctr - alt - bs out of it, and run startx or xinit, it goes into WindowMaker by default. How do I add this. Thanks.

I thought .xinitrc file (yes, with a dot in the beginning) was used to define apps that should be run when X starts, so adding "exec wmaker" to the file should run an executable called wmaker from some director that's in your $PATH and that's it. For the file to work, I think it needs to have execute permissions:
Code:
chmod +x ~/.xinitrc
But is that really what you want? I mean, if it works like I thought it would, you wouldn't get a login manager but window manager right up. Or, if the login manager was mean enough, you would just get it as usually..
I don't think you want to play around with that file, if you just want to get Wmaker into the login manager list.

first, I should add that there was a typo, and it was a ".xinitrc" file.
I think from reading the text of the startx script, that it is not actually used by fedora. "xinit" is being used instead. My problem is that I can't get it into the menu, so you are probably right, .xinitrc won't help. I just need to find what will.
