Ad software

My main idea is to give out internet (wifi) for free but have a few pop-up ad's come up from the sponsers that are paying for it. Is there something out there to make pop up ad's come up when internet (webpages) are access through a linux server (could be proxy or just anything with an ip address). But not to many and it needs to be randomized.
Thanks

Hey antidelldude,

I doubt you'll find such an app. Most people who use wifi tend to be a bit more tech-savvy, ergo will have pop-up blockers. Pop-up ads are irritating and you will probably have to field questions from customers as to why you have them there in the first place. Perhaps a banner ad on the proxy page would be better? Even more so would be some posters up on the wall,

"Wireless Internet brought to you by John's automart"

etc etc.
Regards
Chris

Banner ad's would be nicer. But how could I make them show on pages I didn't create? Or even better occasionally when they try to get on a site it will reroute the request to a sponsers page. Any idea's on how to accomplish this problem, for if I have no sponser there will be no internet.

Speaking from a potential customer point of view I'd say that if I went into a coffee shop or book store and my pages kept getting re-routed to another site it would just p*** me off. I think intrusive advertising is more likely to drive customer's away. Can you not incorporate the cost into your business model. My local coffee place just runs a free for all with a "if you want it, use it but just dont ask us about it" attitude. Which is fine by me.

If its FREE would u complain about one banner

like the snakelifter our local coffeehouses just let u login for free,
just dont ask them "how To" ..
however it normally means knocking offline some windows userz
We have sponsor adds running the top three inches of the visited sites but its easy to ignore if its free and I am sure u could adjust ure browser to ignore it

Ah but you do not understand how big this network really is and how expensive it is to keep up if I choose to do so. And around here there are 0 local places for free the cheapest i have found is 6 and hour or a t-mobile hotspot account required. It happens to span half of mile streatching threw many businesses and areas and was very cheap to setup but running costs are high. I'm asking for something to reroute normal banner ad's through other sites banner ads or an occasional redirection such as once an hour. That simple and not very annoying. I personally wouldn't mind having it for free and getting redirected once an hour to see who was nice enough to provide this service to me free of charge.

Plus, i'm not asking what people think... All I want to know is how to do it.

Well, do you know how to setup a server to do this in my environment?
