Access Files From Live CD
 

I am trying to install Fedora 10 on an old P3 Inspiron 5000. When I boot from the Live cd the screen is split into three sections and is hard to navigate. I am able to edit the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file and log out and log back in to proceed with the installation. The problem is when I finish the installation and reboot to the new OS it boots to the triple section mode again because my xorg.conf is not edited. To do any commands in Fedora I need to get through a brief user setup in which I cannot navigate through until I can see the screen better.
Is there a way to boot to a graphical type safe mode so I can see the whole screen to finish the installation?
How can I access folders from the live cd to edit the installed files? This way I can edit the xorg.conf file before booting and all would be legible.

When it boots up, can you get to a terminal using ctrl-alt-F1 (or possibly F2 or F3)? If so, try running "Xorg-configure" to generate the config file. If things are still weird, edit xorg.conf to specify the vesa video driver. This should at least get you into a readable screen.

I don't think I can get a terminal before the initial setup is complete. If I could boot straight to the operating system without completing the initial setup I could work around the screen.

1. Get Fedora 11 or 12 (F10 is not supported)

2. Use parted magic or some other live linux cd for editing /etc/X11/xorg.conf on a GUI

login as root

#system-config-display

or

#setup

change the boot time options

remove rhgb etc in
kernel.... rhgb

add
vga=779

I couldn't get any of the suggestions to work so I gave the upgrade suggestion a try. I downloaded Fedora 12 and ran the Live cd. It seem as though it has the correct drivers. I have a clear screen and I am running an installation now. I'll get back when it is done.

Everything is working perfectly right out of the box. Updates, software installations etc all went well. Now all I have to do is try to get my wireless to work. I haven't had any luck at this with any disto. If any ideas about installing a RTL8185 chipset pcmcia wireless card please fell free to comment. Thanks for you're help
