Hi -

I had a similar question about customizing the menu. It's actually broken, due to new technology and will be fixed in later realeases. There's a bugzilla bug id 142111 at http://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/ use the "show" tab and look up the id.

There is an awkward workaround, which i outlined in this post:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...hreadid=269754

so I won't repeat the boring details.

Applications get installed in different places depending on how the developer designed it. In general, you will find most apps in /usr/bin or /usr/local/bin, or another sub-directory of /usr. Sometimes an app will install into /opt, particularly 3rd party ones. You will also find some applications, particularly important administrative tools and utilities in /bin or /sbin. These are usually ones required at boot time, before non-root filesystems are mounted. Often, administrators will install /usr /var /opt /tmp and /home on separate filesystems as a means of managing space utilization.
