the simple solution to this problem

open up ur /etc/X11/xorg.conf file

there u need to change the vertical and horizontal refresh rates of ur monitor

lookup in ur monitor manual for that

also before editing that file , take a backup of that file in case things do not work out the way u want

maybe u would like to change the settings in this section of ur file

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"

ModelName "Sampo Tech."
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30.0 - 70.0

Option "dpms"
EndSection

change the HorizSync and VertRefresh
with H-Freq.: 30 KHz ~ 72 KHz

Why don't you just click on applications(or the hat or foot), preferences, screen resolution and change it there?

i think that will not change that since the vertical /horizontal refresh rates used are diferent for different frequencies

so first u need to change that horizontal/vertical rates and then u can change that resolution from the path u specified

But I mean after you click on screen resolution, it gives you the option to change the refresh rate in addition to the resolution

Change the monitor section to look like this:

Section "Monitor"
Identifier "Monitor0"
VendorName "Monitor Vendor"
ModelName "Sampo Tech."
DisplaySize 320 240
HorizSync 30.0 - 72.0
VertRefresh 50.0 - 160.0
Option "dpms"
EndSection
