o---my---linux!!!
i seriously cannot say how happy i am with feather. this is perhaps one of the best setups i've seen (even tho i haven't seen that many).
getting it up and running was extremely easy (after figuring out my rawwrite problem). and i have to say, the desktop enviroment is a pretty good setup.
i will be honest, i think there could be a few more additoins, ut for it's size and the things you can do with it, i would recomend feather for anyone, whether you are on the go or just need an os for an old computer.
the only issue i found was it didn't work on my laptop. not an issue, really, i have another computer i'm working with it on.
i find the only thing to annoy me would be the fact that i have to use a boot disk to get it to work. does anyone know if it is possible to install the boot image on the cd along with the os? so that instead of having to have a cd and a floppy, you would just need the floppy?

the way i understood it, if you wanted to boot up feather into a windows system, you have to have a boot image. and i have windows on the computer i was testing it on, so i got the boot image all set up. i'll look into it tho, thanks!

It doesn't really matter what system you boot Feather into, whether it's Linux, Windows, BSD - it doesn't matter. You only need a bootfloppy if your computer doesn't support booting from CD, and in all other cases the CD itself should be fine.

No, unless you use an emulator. The only distributions that will are ones that support the PPC architecture (i.e. the Mac), such as Debian PPC, YellowDog and KnoppixPPC.

Feather distribution for i686 itself has hardware non-compatibilities.
Video monitors had to be svga(1024x768) but around 75 hz.
Modems can only be external serial port, not USB.
Part of the compatibility problems arise from the Linux phylosophy, define by KDE, that any drivers not installed by Linux kernel, has to be installed in KDE desktop interface, closely coupled to application software such as kppp(dialer for browser), gqcam(digital camera and viewer), cups(printer and network), etc.
For that reason, mini linux may eventually bloated to 300 mb for full desktop applications.
If Feather stay with inkernet and store all the repository data in email on the portals, it can stay as small as 64 mb with cups and gqcam.
Such is the future of tiny minis.

It's not always easy to keep things like this up to date and anyone with more information with regards to new releases is encouraged to use the suggest feature to let us know when new distributions or versions of a distribution are added:
