menu lost after using saved settings

I just tried Feather on my old Fujitsu Lifebook 780Tx.

It only has 64 Meg Ram and 3Gig disc. I have tried several other distros - DSL Puppy etc and have being using Puppy on hard disc for some time but I have to use a PS2 mouse and sound sometimes works but very quietly.

Feather worked fine without PS2 mouse and sound was fine too.

Trouble is there are other problems. (Note NOT installed to HD yet )

If I right click on the desktop and save my setting it works.
booting with knoppix restore=/dev/hda seems to do something.

I still have to answer all the boot questions as if I had never used it before - xserver, USB mouse, choosing 800x600, depth etc.

Also if I then right click on the desktop the main menu has gone.
All I get is a small menu with 3 options - xterm, exit and one I forget.

Also I get an error which flashes up and disappears too fast to read when I run the wireless setup program.

Any ideas please?

I had already decided to do a hard disc install. It screwed up my grub menu - well it installed lilo - but I had put feather on /dev/hda1 and already had Puppy on /dev/hda3. I rebooted Puppy from Cd and re-installed grub to mbr and edited menu.lst to add feather to the menu.

Now the problem I posted about has gone.

I just have the problem that my wireless card won't work under feather.
With Puppy I manually set it up with ndiswrapper and edited rc.local to configure it.

Running the ndiswrapper install from the menu seems to work but then reports 'No new cards found etc.'

When I try to run the configure card from the right click menu it reports
'No cards found'.

Sadly I have no idea where to find the needed files in Feather.
I know it is based on Knoppix 3.4 but have tried to find out about that but nothing useful from google or anywhere else up to now.
thanks again,
Norman
