This may be a problem with /etc/resolv.conf not being set up properly. You can test whether resolv.conf is the problem by entering the two following addresses into your web browser:

http://164.214.2.59
http://www.nima.mil

If you get through on the number address but not on the name address then you do not have /etc/resolve.conf set up properly.

I don't think that you are connected to the Internet at all. su to root and run this command:

ifconfig

It will display your Internet configuration and its status.

Ok I ran that ifconfig thing and this is what I got:
Link ecap: Local Lookback
inet addr:127.0.0.1
Mask:255.0.0.0
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
RX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:2 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
Collisions:0
TXqueuelen:0
RX bytes:100 (100.0b) TX bytes:100 (100.0b)

I have no idea what this means

What it means is that you don't have any Internet connection running. You need to set up your Internet configuration. I see two possible ways for you to do this. One way is to go through the feather install again and look for a section of the install which sets up your Internet connection.

Another way to do it, without having to reinstall, is to configure your network by hand using ifconfig. Section 10.2 of this Debian tutorial shows how to do this.

http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/re...ateway.en.html

If all of this is over your head to the point that you cannot figure it out by trial and error then I suggest that you switch to a distribution which is more newbie-friendly than feather. But I do recommend that you try trial and error for a while. You learn a lot that way.
