SOLVED: How can I delete factory apps from EOS 6?

I want to remove Files, Mail and Epiphany. I will never use them. I use online mail, prefer Nautilus and Firefox.

Anyone? Or is this stuff so "baked" into the OS it's impossible?

I'd imagine the same as any other app. Does something go wrong when you try to remove them with apt? Show output...

i.e. for epiphany
Code:
sudo apt purge --autoremove epiphany-browser
and if you dunno the name of your mail and and file manager packages, you could use synaptic to search then sort by installed version....

Thanks, they do not appear in Synaptic. I did try that command but I only entered epiphany not with the -browser added. I'll try that. Not sure what to put for the Mail app or indeed the Files app?

Anyhoo, it's a step closer so much appreciated.

The default file browser is pantheon-files and I think it's pantheon-mail for the mail client.

Cool, thanks!

EDIT- yep that worked for Files, not for mail.

Every package should appear in Synaptic.

Search for "file manager" then when its done searching, click the "installed version" column to get all the installed stuff listed at the top. Find your file manager that way. Similar should work for your mail reader.

Yes that was what I thought too. I tried several variations of the name and nothing came up. I'll try again using the Pantheon nomenclature. Thanks

EDIT: nope nothing from using Mail. The closest was something called io.elememtary.mail and it wasn't installed, so it must be named something different?? I had success with the other two apps though

I think I had success with mail, using the "factory" AppCentre. Although the uninstall was "greyed-out", I clicked it anyway, and nothing appeared to happen, but after a lengthy pause, the enter password box came up and I entered it. No other notifications appeared but after I re-checked on installed apps in AppCentre and Mail was now gone.

Thanks to all for your help, much appreciated.
