Question Any Dreamlinux users here?

Hi everybody,

As LQ is listed as the "other" forum on our profile on Distrowatch, I was wondering if there are any Dreamlinux users here. It stands to reason that as Dreamlinux maintains a constant top 10 position on Distrowatch there may be a few users who were linked here.

The reason I ask is that I have just emailed jeremy with a request for a Dreamlinux subforum here. Myself and the other developers/staff would gladly offer support here as well as the official forum.

We are trying to have the Final Release of DL 3.5 ready buy the end of this year, so lets hope the new release provides more of what Dreamlinux users are accustomed to.

Hi richs-lxh

Just thought I'd say hi to you here as well I am minus my bucket....could do with it here as well...LOL. As I said at Dreamlinux -I have been here for some time and will look in from time to time.

I have been busy here in Sweden with students at a school in Sundsvall in the middle of Sweden by the coast.

I would like to get them onto Dreamlinux...and have mentioned it as well, but the course work has been fedora 7

Nice to see you here

Thanks XavierP...I'm elated that LQ has given DreamLinux a forum of it's own. I know that with all the distros out there, It's tough deciding who gets added.

Smile Ya Howdy

Yes I'm using DreamLinux as Dedicated LAMP server, and on a secondary laptop that does long term VT100 terminal monitoring of some x-ray equipment. Its been very stable. While just about any Linux distro would serve these purposes, I choose DreamLinux because when I first experimented with it, everything just kinda worked, with very few battle scars. So I adopted it as my Distro of choice. Thanks for creating such an easy to use Linux!

Hi, Another dream Linux user. I just recently stumbled upon DL when I couldn't get Ubuntu to install on one of my boxes (still not sure why). Anyway, I installed the XFCE option, but didn't like it and am now using ICEWM. My box is kinda old, so I like to keep it to the minimalist side, but without sacrificing too many features. ICEWM has proven to be my best option as it plays nice with KDE (I use a few KDE progs, but don't like the bloat)and with one Bible prog I have under Wine (Wordsearch Discipleship Library with talking Strong's concordance which works fine under Wine, but flickers and doesn't render properly under any other WMs I have tried). Overall I like DL very much, but if I ever re-install, will probably choose a Gnome installation. Glad to see this forum, because I'm a bit behind the times and Debian based distros are new to me. So far everything seems very user friendly (and I mean that in a good way for a change)I had been using Mandrake 10.1 for quite a while and was getting tired of the lack of support, but the newer versions seemed to be too much for my old boxes. DL even in all it's eye candy XFCE glory, was much more responsive.

Hey Thanks!! figure8car and chal for checking in

@figure8car: Cool! That's testimony enough that Dreamlinux is built real solid to run as LAMP server. Nice to know someone is running serial console with Dream on laptop.

@chal: Yup, it won't be long till Dreamlinux 3.5 Final is ready. So, if you're up for another install, GNOME will be there waiting.
With the 3.5rc4, the basic distribution .iso comes with Xfce alone. We wanted to keep the d/l's at ~700MB so when users require a GNOME install, we have a script that generates a DL3.5-GNOME .iso right on their desktop!
Dreamlinux GNOME is surprisingly responsive, even on lesser resources.

chal> Thanks for the tips. Am I understanding correctly that Xfce will be installed (by default) and then the script will add/change/overwrite??? the Xfce to/with??? Gnome (you should have heard that before I said it)? I'm doing okay with Xfce installed and not using it, but if I can avoid having something I don't really need installed, or remove/replace it.... umm, maybe I should kinda of errrumah...turns into a mumble and fades out slowly
