xserver-xorg 7.1.0-9 - Configuration Hangs

During an apt-get upgrade on etch, progress stopped on:
Code:
Setting up xserver-xorg (7.1.0-9) ...
[Ctrl-C]
dpkg: error processing xserver-xorg (--configure):
subprocess post-installation script killed by signal (Interrupt)
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of xorg:
 xorg depends on xserver-xorg; however:
Package xserver-xorg is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing xorg (--configure):

dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of x-window-system-core:
 x-window-system-core depends on xorg; however:
Package xorg is not configured yet.
dpkg: error processing x-window-system-core (--configure):

Errors were encountered while processing:
 xserver-xorg
 xorg
 x-window-system-core
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1)
apt-get -f install and dpkg --configure -a produce identical results. It just hangs indefinitely until killed; CPU usage is nil, and there is no hard drive activity. The system has been, and still is, running fine otherwise. I have therefore avoided rebooting it. I did not find any relevant bug reports at debian.org, so I suspect a local problem, but I have no idea what it might be. Is anyone else seeing this?

Try doing: dpkg --configure --pending
If dpkg quits with an error while apt-get install, upgrade, or dist-upgrading try running this to configure the packages that were already unpacked. Then try apt-get - f install, upgrade, or dist-upgrade -f, and then try apt-get install, upgrade, or dist-upgrade again. Repeat as needed.
