Xorg7 afflicted w/ ugly cursor

Debian Sid

xserver-xorg:
Installed: 1:7.0.12

All seems to be well w/ xorg7, nvidia installs fine, Xserver works as expected etc except for one small irritation. It refuses to obey the cursor set in x-cursor-theme. I use E17 as a wm so I am able to use the E cursor instead of the Xcursor but that's not what I really want either. Of course some paths have changed since upgrading to xorg7 and maybe this is the reason that I cannot change the cursor. Any ideas would be very welcome.

Well I've gotten it working (I guess). Not sure if this is the be-all end-all fix or not tho....

cp -ar /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/default/ /usr/share/icons/
cp -ar /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons/silver/ /usr/share/icons

I also put my preferred Silver cursor theme in /usr/share/icons/ then, x-cursor-theme was working correctly again. IMHO simply dumping all icons & cursors into the same dir is very messy. At least it would be nice to have /usr/share/icons/cursors or similar. Well, we'll see what transpires since xorg7 is still in Sid.
