Xlib Libxcb Lenny Opera

From the command line typing in 'opera' after a recent 'dist-upgrade' to Lenny, I got the following error msg:

opera: xcb_xlib.c:52 xcb_xlib_unlock: Assertion
> > > 'c->xlib.lock' failed.Aborted

I was given some helpful advice that said:

LIBXCB_SLOPPY_LOCK=1

This is a process environment setting, so you'll want to use "export" or "setenv" or the appropriate command for your shell to get it into the environment.

I'm using X-term in a BASH shell with fluxbox as a window manager. I use the command SU to get the # prompt from my home directory.

Can someone explain how to add this line to the process environment seems to go in an .ini type file and Opera has these available and can be edited by Vi. I tried this method but it did not fix the problem. The Opera directory is in /root
