Xfce 4.6 ~ 4.8

I've pretty much been going through gnome, kde, and Xfce and haven't found my niche yet. Looking to go from Xfce 4.6 to 4.8 and haven't found howto yet.

Can a point in the right directions.....

Sure run Debian Unstable/sid and install xfce4.

$ apt-cache policy xfce4
xfce4:
Installed: (none)
Candidate: 4.8.0.2
Version table:
4.8.0.2 0
500 http://mirrors.kernel.org/debian/ unstable/main i386 Packages

Prefers KDE:
KDE - Be Free!
Platform Version 4.6.2 (4.6.2)

I am not that sure, but the bigger part of it is (or seems to be) already in Debian testing:
http://packages.debian.org/search?su...keywords=xfce4

You could also run a mixed testing/unstable system:
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=15612

But you should not mix stable with any of testing or unstable. imho.

Or do what craigevil said.
----

I got several system which went from xfce4.6 to xfce4.8, and it is without any (bigger) issues.
I assume that was your question.
You will need to run testing or unstable or a mixed testing/unstable. You can upgrade, you don't need to reinstall.
First time you log into it it will ask you about the panel-settings.
I had little problems with the menu, and i have little problems with thunar. Both not on all systems.

It is not worth any trouble, if you ask me (but i am rather ignorant when it comes to changes of the gui. I barely see any changes).

And if that doesn't blow your skirt up try lxde.

It's best to use the package manager to install things rather than just downlaoding and installing them off the project's site.
