.Xdefaults not registering changes

I've been using Linux for a three months now and so far have been able to solve every problem but this one. Every tutorial I've read on how to set aterm to transparent states that simply changing .Xdefaults is all this is needed. I've done so. It works fine after I do an "xrdb," but whenever I reboot, aterm reverts to its standard form. I have to "xrdb .Xdefaults" after every log-in. .Xdefaults doesn't seem to want to register. I've searched for answers here at LinuxQuestions and through Google. I've come across a few suggestions involving adding lines to .xinitrc and .xsession, but these don't fix the problem. The lines suggested to add are:

xrdb ${HOME}/.Xdefaults &
or
xrdb ~/.Xdefaults &

I also did not have .xinitrc and .xsession files in my home directory. I created them and put these commands in each one. I've even added them to the xinitrc and xsession files in the etc directory. Basically, I've tried everything my newbie knowledge knows how to try and I've run out of places to search.

I'm running Sarge with Fluxbox.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Code:
mv ~/.Xdefaults ~/.Xresources
and see that /etc/X11/Xsession.options contains a line: allow-user-resources
