Wrong characters mounting USB storage device

Hi all,

I use Debian Etch with hald, udev and dbus to automount usb storage devices. It works fine but when the files in the device have characters like αινσϊρη... these characters dissapear or are shown wrong.

Searching in google I have seen that is a problem of codepages or charsets. I think the device should be mounted with the charset iso8859-15 and it should be configured in /etc/hal/fdi/policy/preferences.fdi. Currently this file has no active options.

I have tried:
Code:
<device>
    <match key="storage.bus" string="USB">
     <match key="volume.fsusage" string="filesystem">
        <merge key="volume.policy.mount_option.iocharset=iso8859-15" type="bool">true</merge>
     </match>
    </match>
  </device>
but no luck. Any clues??

Thanks.

It also depends on the filesystem on the removable disk and the mounting options; especially if you have put this files from windows with a special charset and you try to read it from linux with another charset. Wrong characters may appear.
