Woody: KDE Won't Start

I am using the version of KDE that comes with woody 3.0r1 (2.2.1, I believe) and am using gdm as my default session manager. Yesterday, I thought I had everything set up with Debian: GNOME works fine. Today, I tried to start a KDE session, but it stops when the KDE splash screen gets to the peripherals icon.

The error message is rather vague:

kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children
I have done quite a bit of searching on this message board, Google, and Usenet; but, when this problem has arisen, no answers are given. (Same problem but not answered:

If it helps, I had to change /etc/XF86Config-4 after the initial configuration of X because my pointing device was not properly configured. Still, I don't see why this would cause KDE to have problems with peripherals now.

You can set KDM as your display manager, by editing /etc/X11/default-display-manager to the location of kdm. As for using both, I'm sure it's just a matter of telling gdm what it needs to load KDE, but I don't use kde, so I can't help you, sorry. I think there's also a start program named 'startkde' as well, but I beleive you'll have to 'kill' gdm to let it work. Sorry I'm not more help.
