2. received various bug reports in the installation

3.Installed GUI's but am unable to load them

From one newb to another...

I can't help you with your specific questions, but I installed Woody almost a year ago, and struggled with many, many similar problems like yours. After several months of quiet frustration, someone here recommended I switch to Debian Sarge. I was at the point of re- (or de-) installation anyway. Best thing I've done. If you have broadband access, you only need one disc, it detected most of my hardware automatically, and was damn fast and easy.

For 2 and 3 can you post the bug reports and the errors or at least give some more info. If you can't load the GUIs I suspect you haven't done the installation for your video card or you're using the wrong drivers.

6) Woody is really stable so yes it's a good server in itself. Just make sure you keep the security updates in. Though depending on what you actually want to run sarge has more up to date packages. Woody is quite old.
