I am trying out Jessie in VirtualBox. When trying Wine, it creates a ".wine64" folder in the home directory. Why did it change from just using a ".wine" folder? There's a problem with using PlayOnLinux as it looks for a ".wine" folder.
Presumably because you have a 64 bit install. You need to make sure you have 32 bit installed as well for most wine programs. See https://wiki.debian.org/Wine

Hi mostlyharmless.
But I have used a x64 OS for a few years with Linux Mint (Ubuntu version) and it only used a .wine directory. Also in there are folders '.wine/drive_c/Program Files' & '.wine/drive_c/Program Files (x86)'
I don't understand why things changed in Jessie. Did Wheezy also make a .wine64 folder?

You may need to uninstall wine to get wine:i386 or, as I mentioned, you may need to install wine32. I've not used wine for a while but I did notice it seems that since Windows has a 64 bit WINE now does so you have to ensure that you have the correct WINE version installed.

I just tried Linux Mint 18 Beta in VB and when I click to istall the package, 'wine' in Synaptic -- it does not pull in wine64.
Both wine:i386 and wine32 are not available in stock Debian Jessie.

I'll have a look on my Sid installs later but my point is to look for 32 bit WINE to install because the default will be 64 bit.
If there's no wine:i386 package at all it would suggest that the pacgake is broken -- all packages ought to have a 32 bit version available.
I was terrible at getting WINE working but have had luck with combining PlayonLinux, WINETools and (especially) Q4WINE, though that was awhile back (plus my major gaming days, now I just don't run m$ stuff. )
