Win2000 trying to see ext3 partition as FAT32-- dual-boot problem

I have Windows2000 in my first partition and I installed Debian with ext3 filesystem. After I install Debian and try to boot in Windows and while I am in the white logo screen I got a black console in the middle of the screen and it was asking me if it should scan the drive which Debian is on, and the option 'No' was already chosen, so it didnt let me do anything, and this keeps happening in each time I boot Windows2000 now and it takes longer than usual for the login box to come up.

Inside Windows I tried to 'chkdsk' the Debian partition. And after several minutes finally chkdsk says it is a FAT32 but doesnt seem to be a Windows 2000 system and tries to fix each block. (probably my Debian system is ruined now and I am writing this before I rebooted to check after what chkdsk has done)

The main problem for me is it takes too long to boot Windows and I can't get into "My Computer" anymore.

Is this a problem of ext3? I was thinking Windows wasnt supposed to see a Linux partition but could this be because it is not ext2 but ext3?

Is there a way to fix this without having to reinstall Debian with ext2?

(grub is installed only on Debian's own partition)

Windows doesnt have support for ext2 or3 so shouldnt see the linux partition at all. Very strange. You are sure you formatted it as ext3? If windows has tried to fix it, I would imagine you may have to do a reinstall anyway.

Yes, when debian was installing itself it formatted the harddrive first.

Debian works well, my problem is Win2000 is trying to scandisk debian partition each time I boot

Anyone?

Is your Debian parition a primary partition, such as /dev/hda2, or extended (logical) partition, such as /dev/hda5?........If it's a logical partition, then the extended partition which holds the logical partitions may be incorrectly labeled for Windows.......

What is the output of the Linux fdisk tool, using the command 'fdisk -l /dev/hda'.......
