When it freezes, do you have to restart the computer, or can you press ctrl+atl+f1 and land to a terminal? If you can get to a terminal, your X server stops working but the computer is otherwise running ok. If you have to restart, are the lights on your keyboard blinking? If they are, you're having kernel panic. In this case, either your something in your hardware is broken or there's a bug in the kernel. You may want to look into /var/log/kern.log and /var/log/syslog and see if you find some errors there.

I just need to do ctrl+alt+F1, to logout the user and I can relogin again. What is the role of the connection ( I haven't connection to internet !!) nma_dbus_init (): nma_dbus, can I stop it !!, I tried to stop the dbus, but i got more complicated problem!!!
Is it a gnome problem ? without graphical interface, I can work correctly

best regards
bela

I have a problem with my desktop freezing every time I try to make an icon using inkscape. I save it as a plain .svg file (because that is the type of file that I need to make the icon) and when I goto apply it in the launcher properties of a shortcut that I placed on a panel, the desktop freezes and any file browser windows that I have open do as well. This problem was why I upgraded to gutsy and has not went away. I tried to reinstall inkscape but still the problem remains. So I will try to find a work around since I really want to make some icons as a visual aide to help me identify some webpage shortcuts I have placed down on a panel.

Work around

ok instead of using inkscape, I opened up the pic that I wanted to turn into an icon, took a screen shot of it, cropped it in gimp, and just pushed save. The trick is that the screenshot saves as a PNG file which happens to be a supported file format for the launcher to see. Nice
