Which kernel for stable Sarge (2.4 or 2.6) ?

Hello,

I am about to install a production server, and I plan to use Sarge.
But 2.4.27 is the default kernel and 2.6.8 is the alternate choice.
I doubt the same distribution can handle well 2.4 and 2.6.
Changes are deep (udev, modprobe.conf ...)
But I remember woody was working wall with 2.4 kernel instead of 2.6...

Could one of you give me some return of experience ?
Would you go ahead using Sarge and 2.6 ?
(I am expecting more performance and stability using 2.6)

Cheers
Fred

My limited experience shows that whichever one you pick will work well, but that changing after you've installed can be a bit more problematic if you had to compile any special drivers. 2.6.8 is a stable enough kernel. Depending on your hardware, you may have to go with 2.6 because newer hardware isn't always supported on the stock 2.4...
