Did you read the Debin site? They will have the answers there. Your poll doesn't seem to relate to your questions......

You only need the first Debian cd, do the rest via ftp during the install.

I always posts random polls.. lol why not? I'm a graphical thinker, graphs and figures make sense to me.

Only need CD 1 huh? wicked...

Do I absolutely need to install via ftp on setup? I probably wont have a net connection.. can i do it afterwards?

Debain cd 1 is labeled "NON_US".. it's still english right?..

If no net connection, get all 3 cds. Then again, since you have adsl if it's connected via a network card the install will pick it up the card and use it to download the rest - if that is the case, then just go with cd 1.

Well there are thousands of packages in Debian, you'll find the most common ones on the first couple of CD's Most of your basic stuff will be on the first cd, then you'll find some extra stuff on 2 etc further on. If you want your basic servers..ie.Web, mail, news, ftp, and file, those will probably all be on cd 1 or at the most cd 2, if you want to get all sorts of games and stuff you'll have to download all...but for your typical services, and desktop uses incl X 2 cds should suffice.

btw the Woody distro or 3.0r2 is the most current, you may be only able to find only iso images of 30r1 but thats ok 3.0r2 is mainly just security updated software. Since it will be on a closed network, however, you shouldn't need to worry about that. Also when/if you hook the clsed network up to internet, or you install it on internet machine you'll be able to update security and packages on net. Good luck, have fun!
