where to install gtkpod 0.88?

I've recently installed Sarge with the 2.6.8 kernel.
I want to install gtkpod 0.88 for use with my ipod shuffle. "apt-get install gtkpod" installs the 0.85 version which doesn't support the shuffle. Does this meanI have to install the latest version from source?

I'd like to install gtkpod in the same directory apt-get would. When I install from source do I install gtkpod to the /usr/lib directory and then make a symbollic link to /usr/bin?

thanks for tolerating a newb.

You can also download the 0.88 package from the Debian site (it's in the Sid (unstable)) repository. Or you can specify Sid's source repositories in your /etc/apt/sources.list and download and compile the source with apt-get (I think the command is something like 'apt-get -b source gtkpod').

Good luck

If you need the new version from the site and will install from source....just dl to home directory...open and read the install/readme...when you execute the install process it will install where it belongs.
