You could temporary enable a testing or unstable repo & grab a more updated copy. You run the risk of updating more of your system than you want, so if it tries to, lets' say, give you a whole new version of gnome, kernel, xserver, etc., then you don't want to do that.
I'd say put Debian Etch on your system. It's quite fast & stable.
