Where Is The Screensaver?

I have been using Debian exclusively since 2005, and with some a few other desktops {XFCE, LXDE, Fluxbox}, I have mostly been using KDE.

Now, while I have been using "xscreensaver" for about a decade, I had always seen the screensaver option on KDE System Settings.

I don't see it anymore.

Now, although I really don't care, can anyone tell me why there is no longer a KDE screensaver option, anymore?

Which version of KDE? What screensaver program are you using?

In my systems with KDE, on which I use Xscreensaver and not the KDE screensaver, Xscreensaver does not appear in KDE System Settings. Xscreensaver does appear on the KDE menus under "Settings."

Apparently, my version of KDE is 5.16.

I, too, use Xscreensaver, since around 2008. (current version 5.42+dfsg1-1)

I'm curious. Does it show on the Applications Menu?

Not anymore

Try running xscreensaver-demo from the command line. That's the xscreensaver configuration routine.

If the command throws any error messages, post them here, being sure to surround any terminal output with "code" tags which become available when you click the "Go Advanced" button beneath the compose post window.

Nonononono...

I have been using xscreensaver since around 2015, as I have said. While I don't use the default KDE screensaver since 2015, I have just noticed that it is no longer an option on Debian. And I was just wondering where it went.

I think it was called kscreensaver, which is no longer on my repository package list.

I must have misunderstood. I thought that you said you were using xscreensaver and that xscreensaver no longer appeared on your menu.

My apologies.

As far as I know (and I'm not using it either) it's not part of the newer Plasma 5 and/or KDE Applications suite anymore. I found this quote on the web
Quote:

Martin Grlin made "a dream come true" today with killing the KScreensaver support in the KDE Plasma Workspaces in a commit entitled "Die kscreensaver, die!" He also proceeded to remove the KDE Screensaver KCM control module and drop other code too, including KRandR.
There are community alternatives, but "The Screensaver" (for KDE) is dead, Jim!

Thank you for clearing this up for me.
