what files must i edit in order to:


what files must I edit in order to
a) preload devices like "snd-sb16" in mandrake it was modprobe.preload

b)define the path of the java runtime (and what lines to add)?

a) Edit the file /etc/modules and add to the end of it a line that says
Code:
snd-sb16

b) See the Java: Sun JRE/JDK Installation on Debian document I have written regarding the installation of Java on Debian.
Quick summary of the procedure (please read the whole document for all the details though):
Code:
apt-get install java-package

fakeroot make-jpkg jre-1_5_0_01-linux-i586.bin

dpkg -i sun-j2re1.5_1.5.0+update01_i386.deb
