What does the following line mean in the script?

I have been looking at /etc/init.d/watchdog file on Debian Lenny and I noticed the following two lines which are usually present in many scripts which resides in /etc/init.d/ directory.
Code:
[ -e /etc/default/watchdog ] && . /etc/default/watchdog
What does the above line do?

Thanks
