What's on the CDs?

I'm currently downloading the 1-7 CDs (3.0_r3). What is the content of these CDs? I guess #1 is installation while the rest are programcollections?

All 7 are for installation. The first cd is all you need if you have either a very fast internet connection or days and days in which to download everything. Otherwise, use all 7 cds for an offline installation.

Only the first one is needed
And 3.0r4 has just been released (just security updates basically - no biggie if you are almost complete with the download of r3 - just perform an apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade after the installation)

But what is more important: The Debian 3.0 is hopelessly way too old to provide an enjoyable desktop/workstation usage experience, so if you plan on using it for such, I strongly recommend installing Debian testing ('sarge') instead. In that case, download e.g. the net installer from here:

Thanks for your answer. I tried installing the stable version but I got into trouble when I had to choose the network interface. How can I find out what kind I have? My system is a Shuttle SB75:

The information there says Broadcom 5788. I can't find this in the Hardware-Howto network adapter list. Does that mean it is not supported?
