webmin: missing /etc/init.d/webmin

I'm trying to get my webmin to work. I reinstalled webmin but I can't connect to webmin on port 10000 and I don't see any /etc/init.d/webmin file on how to start webmin. how can I tell if webmin is properly installed and how can I get webmin to run?
Thanks alot

How did you install it ... Not from the Debian repos (unless you're still using Sarge). It was removed from there for general bugginess, and lack of maintenance. If you downloaded the .deb package from Webmin and installed it with dpkg, you should be able to find where its various directories and files are with:
# updatedb
# locate webmin

May I suggest a more readable command?
Code:
updatedb && locate webmin > webmin-search.txt
This gives you a webmin-search text file that can be read with your favourite editor. Execute this command as root (like you should with Rickh's version)

thanks for all the responses.
Now I executed your command and can see all the webmin locations. What do I do with that? I see quite a lot of stuff.
Should this mean I should not use webmin deb package and rather install a version from http://webmin.com ?
Or not use webmin at all? Are there any alternatives?
Thanks alot for your help

Yes, you are advised to remove the .dep package and use the latest stable version from the Webmin page.
Can you do w/o Webmin? Yes, but given your question you lack the experience to do so.
