Wanna be a package maintainer !
 

Hi guys, I just love Debian, I think it's the best operating system in the world and I know some people around will agreed me, hehe, well the matter is that I'm reading and learning about how to become a package maintainer since I hate it when I can't find a package on the repositories, and plus this way I can help the free software comunity.

So if anyone around here is or have been a Debian's package maintainer I would love to hear advices or some guideness, it would be pretty helpfull.

It seems pretty usefull to catch the bugs reports, I haven't thought about that ! the most important thing XD

Nothing personal, butwon't win you votes with the Debian developers to accept your input. Only when you create a package you're expected to maintain it also, but only then just that package. It's highly unlikely they'll entrust you with any (critical) package currently maintained by someone else.

I know that, I just meant that because of that reason I wanna become a part of the solution, and not just keep being another viwer of the problem :p.

Since a long time ago I wanna be a package maintainer, but now I'm finally serious about it.

Well then you should read the new maintainers guide and sign up for the Debian Mentors mailing list from this page and start asking some questions on there. Then in about a year or two when you have completed the new maintainer process you will be a Debian Developer.

...if you're good enough, and can get an existing DD to sponsor you.

Well it seems pretty long time, but it's just cool because there is no doubt it will be worth, and about that time I will be gaduated, wich means more time to spend on the Debian's corner :D
